THE STORY OF ACORN GOLF CLUB

A place where you don't have to be good at golf to love golf.

Golf Wasn't Always Part of the Plan

Golf has become a much bigger part of my life than I ever could have imagined.

I grew up on a farm in a small rural town outside of Houston. I knew more about cattle than I did golf, and despite being tall, I was never particularly athletic. I focused on school, went to college, and after graduating, started my career in accounting at a large oil and gas company.

After several years, I moved into a commercial and marketing position. That was when I started hearing a question more and more often: "Do you play golf?"

I quickly realized I was tired of being the person left behind at the office while everyone else was out playing in golf tournaments. So, at 26 years old, I bought my first set of golf clubs and signed up for lessons.

It Was Never Really About the Score

Those lessons eventually turned into girls' days playing nine holes at a course we affectionately called "the goat ranch." You can probably imagine what the greens looked like.

But honestly, I loved it. I loved being outside. I loved spending time with my friends. And I loved that golf gave us an excuse to get together and have fun. I wasn't good—and that wasn't the point.

We usually didn't even keep score. We laughed when golf bags fell off the cart. We fished golf balls out of ponds. We fought over the fancy golf balls we found on the course. At work, I played in scrambles with what was probably a very generous +20 handicap.

For the next ten years, that was golf to me. And it was great.

Finding Acorn

Living in the Houston area, I learned that finding a place to play or practice wasn't always easy. A few years ago, I discovered an old driving range close to our house called 5050 Acorn. It wasn't fancy—and that's exactly what made it special.

There was an ice house, and the driving range had an assortment of tires and even old cars mixed in with the yardage signs. It was the kind of place where you could hit some balls, grab a couple of cold beers, and not worry about whether everything was perfect.

Then, in 2024, my boyfriend decided he really wanted to get back into playing golf. We started going to the range, built a putting green in the backyard, and bought training nets—which eventually resulted in a hole in the wall.

In early 2025, the driving range near our house was sold to a developer and closed. We started looking for other places to practice and quickly discovered there weren't many options, and the ones we found had very limited availability.

That's when we started talking about putting a golf simulator in the entertainment room at our house. Then we had a thought: Surely we aren't the only people looking for a place to practice. Most people don't have an extra room in their house that they can turn into a golf simulator.

From an Idea to a Real Place

What started as a conversation quickly turned into a deep dive into simulator technology, business plans, commercial real estate, construction, branding, and all the little details that come with opening a brick-and-mortar business.

A chance connection involving a friend looking for a Wagyu bull eventually led us to a rancher, who also happened to be a chiropractor with a commercial building in Atascocita. They started talking about cattle, then golf, and one thing led to another. The following week, we were invited to see the available space.

It was a blank canvas in a rapidly growing area, surrounded by mostly private golf courses. But the best part was that we had finally found someone willing to believe in the vision.

Acorn Golf Club

Today, Acorn has three Full Swing simulator bays for golf training and play, a dedicated Laser Shot bay, multiple sports games, a putting area, and a lounge to relax and hang out.

But Acorn is about more than golf. It's about creating a place where people can come together. You don't have to be a great golfer. You don't have to know all the rules. You don't even have to have experience.

We built Acorn because we wanted a place like this in our community—a place to practice, compete, learn, laugh, and spend time with friends and family.

A place where you don't have to be good at golf to love golf.

Come as you are. Grab a club. Bring your people. Have some fun.
